In a candid interview, Nagaland Chief Secretary, Talitemjen Toy, IAS said today he studied science during his pre-university years to make his parents happy, eventhough, he was more interested in humanity.

Speaking at the 'first ever celebrity talk show' in the state -‘Let's Talk Epic’, a show for people who are creators and entrepreneurs, as its inaugural guest, Toy admitted that though he got enrolled in an engineering college to pursue electronic, his heart was always set on humanity.

Later, he went on to pursue humanity. Toy started his schooling in 1968 and passed out his matriculation in 1980.

Further sharing interesting tidbits about his life, which are out of the public domain, he said that his aim in life was to become a professional footballer with Pele, the legendary Brazilian, as his idol.

"I had to forego my dreams as I always have to wait on the reserve side," he said on a lighter note, candidly reminiscing  and giving a brief insight into his life at the show held here this evening at RCEMPA, Jotsoma.

Candy-crush and other habits 

On his free time, sometimes Toy plays candy-crush, the most popular mobile game, to relax and unwind!

When asked by the host about his sleep routine, Toy said, he usually sleeps early and wakes up early. He also admitted that it hasn’t been easy to balance work and family life; however, he tries to spend as much time with his family and friends.

For someone who usually has a tight-scheduled routine as head of the state, the chief secretary disclosed that he always spend some time exercising followed by a quiet time reading the scriptures to nurture his soul, have lunch, gets ready to meet people and heads to office.

Most evenings, Toy said, he spends time with his family members and friends and often doesn’t meet people.

On his health and diet, Toy admitted that he doesn’t have the luxury of having breakfast, lunch etc, and he doesn’t follow any diet, but always mind to “eat less than full”, adding "This is enough and good for everyone."

He also informed that he doesn’t have a particular hobby, perhaps because he doesn’t have time. However, he said he loves driving.

Stating that he is a realist, Toy said his motto in life is “to keep the main thing the main thing” and that he hates people with ‘ego’ which according to him gets people into lots of conflicts. To make this world a better place, Toy advised that one should have a positive outlook, keep smiling and have love for all God’s creation.

When enquired how he would like to impact the society, Toy said he strives to set an exemplary life of being punctual and sincere in one’s work.

‘Let's Talk Epic’

A show conceptualized and co-founded by two young people, Dietho Suokhrie and Medo Seyie, “Let's Talk Epic” was created with a vision to positively impact the society especially among the youth. 

“It aims to promote local celebrities, and to explore out people with brilliant minds to share their wisdom to break-away from the bondages of stereotypes and traditional lifestyles,” the duo informed. “Let’s talk epic firmly believes in post modernization and considers the next best thing in arts and entertainment industry and is purely for motivational purposes and non-political and non-religious company,” they added.
